98/99 Season Back issues

Issue 29, May 99 This issue saw a return to an A5 format in keeping with the tradition of most Fanzines, the advantage being we could reduce the price to the customer, i.e……you! The issue reflected optimism of a repeat Championship, perhaps fuelled by sharing space with celebrations of that magnificent night at Anfield just 10 short years previously. We were also keen to pay homage to, perhaps, the greatest defence in the history of English football. |

Issue 27, Feb 99 The highlight of this issue was an excellent interview with Nick Hornby, perhaps the most famous Arsenal fan in the world. Features included a celebration of Emmanuel Petit who was feeling distinctly unloved at the time and the arrival, finally, of a top class striker in the form of Nwanko Kanu. Check out, if you can the Christ like picture of Tony Adams after scoring perhaps the most appropriate and deserved goal in the club’s history. |

Issue 26, Dec 98/Jan 99 An issue that posed a number of worrying questions. The team had just been knocked out of Europe and had seen the reserves thrashed by a similarly weakened Chelsea in the Worthless Cup. Discipline was also proving a problem. So, what had gone wrong in Europe? Were we right in playing at Wembley? Vieira, sinned against or sinner. Oh the trauma! |

Issue 24, Oct 98 This issue came out when all was not just rosy but positively technicolour. A Double in the bank and an easy win over United in the Charity Shield meant we could almost overlook the less than perfect start to the season. Interestingly enough, as we paid tribute to the departing Ian Wright, questions were already being asked of the attitude displayed by his erstwhile replacement, Nicolas Anelka. Oh boy, were we to find out just how dodgy that attitude was to be. |

Issue 23, Sept 98 A fantastic picture of Dennis Bergkamp, Premiership Trophy in his hands, staring from the centre pages, said it all. This was the most wonderful issue to put together, celebrating not only the Double Winners, but also, Petit and Vieira’s part in winning the World Cup for France. The only difficult question posed, and answered, was who to declare the player of the season. Pure joy and a collector’s issue. |
